Tank dps and why it doesn't affect averages at all



Lots and lots of forum posts are calling our methods flawed for calculating average dps because we take classes that can either tank and dps (or do both). Warriors, druids, paladins, shamans, priests are the ones that fall into that category.

I'm going to present here an example of how the average dps for a class is calculated (Referring to this page).

First, let's assume there's 4 different bosses, and that there's druids named Bodamba, Stacked, Luvvabull and Baakgwai all in seperate guilds on seperate servers. Each of them have had their chance to dps, and tank. Ignoring every other class the dps chart looked like this:

As you can see, everyone got to dps, and some had to heal in certain bosses, and others had to tank.

The way we calculate the average dps for a class Here is take the best dps recorded for each boss, regardless of guild or server or if they tanked dps or healed. So just following those simple rules we see this:

So, after looking at those 4 numbers, we can clearly see that adding them together and dividing by four we get 1524 average DPS. This number does not include any tanking or healing AT ALL. Baakgwai only got to dps once for Boss 3, but his dps was the best so we used that. It does not take into account that he healed for Boss 1 and Boss 2, nor the fact that he tanked during Boss 4.

There you have it, our methods for calculating average dps for classes ignores the fact that classes have to heal and tank during different encounters. Please direct any further questions to the forums, if it's asked enough I will add it to this page
