Those are the same raid, one in the wws system, and one recalcualted in our system
Damage done by the guild: 4 518 895
Time for fight: 427
Total raid dps: 10583
slightly different then what wws shows, but only by 99 dps, becuase we don't have an exact time, only the information from the url. *note 99 dps is less then a 1% difference

Now, let's add all the dps recorded from the guild for everyone using the wws report.

As you can see I added everyone's individual raid dps together. The number I got is just, well wrong.

According to individual dps, the raid did 16102 damage every second, BUT according to the amount of damage that was even done to the boss, the raid did 10583 dps. That's almost a 60% increase in dps done. If anything when I added the dps of all the characters together I should of gotten LESS, becuase wws does not track mage elementals or searing/magma totems (etc...).

Let's add the dps using our methodolgy from the report in our system.

This is almost exactly what we recorded as the raid dps. It's off by a mear 35dps.

"So from how I understand your way of calculating dps, if my guild brought fewer healers to make the fight shorter I would have more than 1112 dps?..."

We re-adjust dps to be based on the guilds total dps. Taking less healers to down a boss quicker will increase your dps yes, that is obvious, as the boss will die faster. We're ok with that, becuase the fewer healers you bring, the better the ones you have already will have to be. Go ahead bring one healer and try to break records, you're just going to die.

"This calculator greatly benefits melee dps cause they usually have more dps time than casters...at least ele shamys and mages."

As stated in the faq, we use the raids dps time, not the individual dps time. This puts everyone on a level playing field. That shadow priest inritus? According to our site, the fight was 427 seconds long, so the amount of time he was damaging, was over those 427 seconds, same for that hunter Goto etc...

"I like the old wws calculator better that shows those who do the most dmg on top....surprisingly."

How is ours not doing that? Take a look at the raid in wws, and the same raid on our scoreboard, the positions have not changed at all. Want to see another oddity though? Look at the other priest Maenshae, and look at the hunter Goto, they did 70244, and 420170 damage respectively. So Goto did about 350k MORE damage then Maenshae. Yet if you look at wws, what is the reported dps? Maenshae is reported of having 1170, and Goto of having 1088. How is that even possible? The dps time record for both is also skewed, how is it posisble that Maenshae dps'd for 107% of the fight? That's not even theoretically possible. This is why the wws calculator is incorrect while gauging the damage done between different raids.

We normalize everyones dps in every raid to be the amount of damage done divided by the amount of time it took to kill the boss. This is the only way to correctly rank people between bosses.

Now, the reason for all this confusion is the fact that WWS uses individual dps time to calculate dps. So if you dps for 15 seconds, and then die (or stop dps), your dps time will only be calculated over those 15 seconds. We find it's more fair to base it over the entire encounter, as it's the raids ability to defeat a boss, not an individuals 15 seconds of dps, that is worth ranking.

Thanks for reading this, and maybe you can help other people on the forums who don't understand our numbers by explaining it to them. Or you could just link this page.
